First launched in 2001, the conference has become a leading forum in China attracting scholars from all over the world to exchange new ideas and research findings in formal linguistics. The 9th International Conference on Formal Linguistics (ICFL-9) will be held in Shanghai, China, on November 20-22, 2020. It is co-organized by the College of Foreign Languages and Literature at Fudan University, the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and co-sponsored by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Fudan University and the Institute of Linguistics at Shanghai International Studies University. ICFL-9 invites submissions of abstracts on all topics in the field of formal linguistics, including (but not limited to) syntax, semantics, phonology, morphology, language acquisition, language processing, and biolinguistics. The central theme for this year’s conference is “universals and cross-linguistic/cross-modal variation”. We especially encourage submissions from graduate students and early career scholars.
